V0.2.6 - Unity Security Update, Polishing, & More


This update is a big one, mostly focusing on polishing the game and eliminating a lot of the tech debt I've accumulated through development. Though even with that said, I had a few more things planned for this update, but in light of the recent news of the Unity security issue, I felt it needed to be released much sooner than later. 

Normally, I keep the prior version of the game still available to download, but due to the security issue, I've opted to remove those versions. Future updates will continue to have the prior version available, unless Unity does something silly and announces there's another security hole.

This was planned to be the last update before version 0.3.0, but the security update has rearranged plans. I have yet decided if the remaining features I had planned for this update will be in a hypothetical 0.2.7, or just wrapped up in 0.3.0, or pushed to an update afterward. I will likely be pushing to finish this milestone rather than delay it further. 

PATCH NOTES

[ADDED]

  • Solar Panels now indicate physically what the light level is
  • Distance Fog and dynamic background coloring
  • New Welcome Screen for first time runs

  • Sales Tax of a planet is now added to the price of items

  • Planetary map travel on foot is now more appropriately scaled in speed
  • Older characters and pregnant characters walk slower
  • Characters prioritize walking on floors more than terrain
  • Character creator alerts you if you have unspent personality points
  • Trade vendors now sell items for a higher price than they'll buy it for
  • Resized and redid a variety of UI elements
  • Overhauled the Trade Window, including an added filter function
  • Hair option arrows are now hidden if the species doesn't have hair
  • Rendered icons are now a higher resolution
  • Materials are handled much better, reducing risks of memory leaks during long playthroughs
  • Buying a lot that is built on now has an appropriate price according to the value of that construction

[FIXED]

  • Game built with patched Unity, removing security flaw.
  • Pause Button no longer blinks absurdly fast
  • Egg Cradles now function correctly, with visuals
  • NPCs will now have the correct skills for their career
  • You can no longer invite someone to visit from another planet
  • Getting out of bed when one side of the bed is blocked no longer teleports the character to 0,0
  • Legs now rotate appropriately with the character when walking away from the camera
  • Characters now receive the correct lighting when in a room on a floor that isn't the ground level
  • Characters don't dramatically rotate when equipping or unequipping items
  • Wall and Floor cursors now report the correct dimensions of your build
  • Building a lot and then moving in a legacy should no longer throw errors
  • Editing a character in the creator will always default to the biography screen first
  • All appropriate items should vanish when the wall is cut away
  • Autolight settings now appropriately save
  • Lighting and room data is now correctly assigned when new rooms are made with the box wall option
  • Camera resets position when you go into planet mode
  • Objects shouldn't spawn over water in certain swamp biomes
  • Personality Points remaining display correctly on the character creator
  • Personality randomization is better, and more random.
  • Day/night cycle has been dramatically improved and has better timing
  • Wall hole cutouts appropriately mirror when a non-symmetrical window is placed
  • Lots made without a legacy will correctly assign themselves to the planet they're on
  • Spawned NPCs now register as belonging to the planet they live on
  • Unemployed contacts no longer show as being a coworker if you are also unemployed
  • You can no longer call infants up on the comm terminal
  • Asset loading is more efficient
